Our Story

Blue Ridge Bake Shop is a family owned business, started by me, Nancy East, in 2006 after I decided to alter my career path. I was a small animal veterinarian for close to 10 years but took a sabbatical from medicine in 2003 to stay at home and raise my son, Aidan, and daughter, Paige.

 

I absolutely love being with my little people all the time, but I wanted to contribute to our family's income and to sometimes have a reason for a break from singing, "The Wheels on the Bus!" A home based business felt like the right solution for my desire to stay home yet still have some autonomy. Baking has always been a tremendous passion of mine, so with the encouragement and support of my husband and family, I traded in my stethoscope for a rolling pin.

 

I still practice veterinary medicine part time but enjoy spending more and more time in the kitchen and, of course, with the kids (including Wogene, our third child!) who enjoy their roles as official taste testers!


Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you have a store where I may purchase your cookies or is my only option to order cookies online?

 

No, we do not have a retail location at this time but we have partnered up with several local businesses who sell our goodies (see our home page for a listing).  We are fortunate enough to bake our goodies in a commercial kitchen we have established in our home. It is an FDA-inspected kitchen, so rest assured, your goodies come from a sanitary and properly inspected facility.  We can sometimes arrange a local pickup destination for your order as well. 

 

2. Do you accept large orders, such as for client gifts?

 

Absolutely. We can even personalize your packages by including your business card or a note from you. During the holidays, we require a week's advance notice. Give us a call (828-400-5795) or send us an email if you'd like more information.

 

3. Why don't you ship every day of the week?

 

Since we ship through the U.S. postal service, we try to avoid your cookies sitting somewhere other than your home during the weekend. By only shipping Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, it helps ensure that the freshest cookie possible is delivered to your door. However, you can still place an order any day of the week, but if it's later than Wednesday, it won't ship until the following Monday. Orders placed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are usually shipped within 24-48 hours of receipt. Orders placed by noon on Wednesday are sometimes shipped the same day, but this is not a guarantee.

 

4. How long will it take my order to arrive?

 

We ship our cookies via United States Postal Service's Priority Mail. According to the USPS, this should take anywhere between 2-3 days, depending on the distance the cookies are traveling.

 

5. Do you have any cookies that are free of nuts?

 

No, unfortunately we cannot guarantee that our products have not come into contact with some form of tree nut or peanut butter since we do use these ingredients in our bakery.

 

6. Do you deliver locally or do I always need to have my cookies shipped?

 

We will deliver our gift packages within a 5-mile radius of Waynesville at no charge. For other deliveries in Haywood County or beyond, we will need to ship your order unless you have arrange a local pickup destination with us.  If no one is available to personally receive the cookies at an address during business hours, we must leave the package at the address (usually on a front porch).
